Why does God allow Tragedy and Suffering?

Dear beloved congregation,
We are gathered here to explore a question that has lingered in the hearts of believers for generations: “Why does God allow tragedy and suffering?” It’s a challenging question, but as followers of Christ, we must remember that He never promised a life without pain. In fact, our Saviour, Jesus, forewarned us that in this world, we would face trials and tribulations. However, He also assured us of victory over them. We need to remember that a child of God who shies away from this reality may miss out on the divine blessings attached to the waiting period. Let us delve deeper into this profound truth and understand how God’s divine blessings are intricately tied to the waiting period and challenges we encounter.
- Recognizing the Sinful Nature – Anyone that does not want to experience pain will not carry human nature.
As descendants of Adam, we inherit a sinful nature that brings pain and suffering into our lives. It is nearly impossible to avoid experiencing pain in this fallen world (Romans 3:23, 8:22). Sin corrupted God’s perfect creation, introducing suffering as a consequence. The pain we experience stems from the sin that entered the world. But, let us remember that even in the face of suffering, God’s grace and redemption are readily available to us. - God’s Purpose in Suffering – God permits it to bring forth something very good from within us, Rom 8:28
While suffering is not inherently good, God permits it to bring forth something remarkable from it (Romans 8:28). Just as Joseph’s journey involved hardships and trials, it ultimately led to his divine destiny. Likewise, God uses our present struggles as preparation and guidance for the future He has in store for us. Sometimes, the path may be rough, but we must trust in God’s plan and persevere, knowing that He works all things for our good (Genesis 50:20).As followers of Christ, we must listen and wait patiently for the will of God. Like Joseph, who knew his destination but was unaware of the hardships along the way, we may be tempted to shy away from the pain, potentially missing out on the growth and blessings that lie beyond it. Remember, God allows what we go through as preparation and direction for where He is leading us. Even in the midst of trials, His plan is at work. - Trusting in God’s Timing – A day will come when our suffering will end, and God’s justice will prevail over the evildoers
In 2 Peter 3:9, we learn that God does not delay or procrastinate like us humans. His timing is perfect, for He knows when to bless us without leading us astray. There is no lateness or delay in God’s blessings. Often, He withholds blessings until the right moment to ensure they do not lead to our destruction. When the appointed time comes, it is our time. Sometimes, we may be responsible for the delay due to our nonchalant attitude or disobedience to His instructions. Let us strive to align ourselves with His will, eagerly awaiting the fulfillment of His promises. - Revealing God’s Plan through Suffering:
Suffering and tribulations reveal the hidden treasures in our lives, guiding others to follow our example (2 Corinthians 4:17). What may seem like a mighty battle to us is often a light affliction in God’s eyes. Embracing our challenges with faith and courage brings glory to His name. Sometimes, we become fixated on others’ blessings, failing to inquire about God’s unique plans and provisions for our lives. Let us focus on our own journey, allowing God to reveal His purpose and grant us victory over every challenge. - Choosing Peace and Trust – You are to decide whether to remain bitter or be at peace, with courage.
In times of suffering, we face a choice: to remain bitter or to be at peace and courageous (1 John 5:13, John 16:33). Instead of dwelling on our pain, let us shift our focus to God, acknowledging the challenge while seeking victory as promised. In 1 John 5:13 and John 16:33, we are assured that those who place their trust in God will experience victory. In the midst of trials, let us utter these words to the Almighty: “God, I am experiencing the challenge already; grant me the victory as You have promised.” Let us not confuse our Savior with a mere war commander. Trust in Him with unwavering faith and surrender your battles to His capable hands.
Surrender your battles to God. Only those who place their complete trust in Him will be granted victory over every challenge.. Prophet Akintunde Akinniyi
In conclusion, my dear brothers and sisters, surrender your battles to God. Only those who place their complete trust in Him will be granted victory over every challenge. Trust Him in all situations. Remember, it is through waiting, testing, and refining that He shapes us into vessels of His purpose.
May we, as a community of believers, lean on His strength and find comfort in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father works all things together for the good of those who love Him. Trust in Him, for He is faithful. Amen.
