Identifying God’s call

Dear beloved congregation,

In this moment of reflection, we are here to discuss the profound concept of answering God’s call and living a purposeful life in His service. Many among us often question what God desires of them, searching for their divine purpose. However, let us remember that God has already laid the foundation for each of our lives. As we explore our callings, let us not view them as mere occupations with anticipated rewards, but rather, as pathways to secure our place in the heavenly realm. Hebs. 12:1-4, 2 Cor 4:17, 2 Tim 1:7, 1 Chron. 22:32, 1 Sam 22:2.

In our pursuit of God’s purpose, let us begin with an understanding of two distinct calls that guide our lives:

1. Primary Call: The Call to Salvation
   Our journey begins with a call to salvation, a beckoning from the shackles of our former selves, urging us to embrace the salvation offered through Christ. The faithful adherence to this call should remain at the core of our existence. This primary call stands as the foundation of our spiritual transformation. Let us continually reflect on our walk with the Lord and ensure we remain faithful to the positive transformation He started in us.
2. Secondary Call: The Call to Service
   Following our salvation, we are summoned to a secondary call—a unique duty or responsibility that God entrusts to each of us. This call is the assignment that brings fulfillment and purpose to our lives as believers. As stewards of His gifts, we are tasked with nurturing them to bless others. Have you discovered your area of service before God? It is in this service that our call finds its completion.We must pause and introspect, asking ourselves: What are we doing with the precious gifts bestowed upon us? Knowledge, wisdom, influence—these are not accidents but intentional endowments. Are we utilizing them for God’s divine purpose? Are lives being positively impacted by our actions? Let us remember, time is not a constraint in God’s work. He works on His own timeline, and our role is to remain steadfast until the day we are called home to His eternal kingdom.

Partnering with God
A vital step in our journey is partnering with God. By aligning our lives with His divine will, we gain insight into His plans for us. However, remember this, to truly partner with God, we must know Him. The story of Paul, once vibrant yet misguided, illustrates the significance of alignment with God’s intentions. Partnership with God unveils His purpose for us, guiding us toward the fulfillment of our unique calling.

Here are three essential actions to take after embracing this partnership:

1. Pray with Action
   Different types of prayers serve different purposes. Both general and individual prayers hold power, yet it’s the fervent and focused prayers that often manifest remarkable outcomes. You have to take action accordingly after every request. The sincerity of heart matters a lot too. Let us seek God’s mercy as we enter His presence, much like Naaman found favour amidst other lepers.
2. Avoid Negative Influences
   Beware of those who discourage your calling. I call them blockers. They are obstacles that can hinder your progress. When the time of reckoning arrives, they will not share in the consequences of your disobedience.
3. Make Decisions Aligned with God’s Direction
   Often, our personal intentions cloud God’s plan. When decisions beckon, seek God’s guidance. Strive to move forward with determination, understanding that His timing is perfect. Do not be overly clever in your ways before God; humility and faith are the keys to understanding His path.

Brethren, remember that God’s work is carried out through imperfect vessels. God does not seek perfection; He uses imperfect vessels to fulfill His perfect plan. From Moses to Isaiah, each was marked by their shortcomings. Yet, God saw beyond their flaws and deemed them suitable for His purpose. When I remember where I am coming from, I marvel at the way God works. One day I will share the journey of my life with you very well.

In this journey, expect challenges and hardships that may appear ridiculous. Stand firm in your conviction, knowing that these are trials on the path to divine purpose. May you find comfort in answering God’s call, may your lives be meaningful to Him, and may your service not be in vain in Jesus name.
