Misuse of grace – 12 Things that can swallow a man’s destiny

As we gather once again, we shall explore one of the twelve factors that can potentially engulf and compromise a man’s destiny: the misuse of the grace of God. Grace, children of God, is the unmerited favour of God that showers upon us, not because of our efforts, but simply because of His boundless love and mercy.

In our lives, grace is the thread that weaves through moments when our strength falters and our might dwindles. It manifests itself in the lives of those who willingly submit to the will of God, embracing a humility that opens the door to unexpected opportunities. However, with the precious gift of grace comes the responsibility to cherish it and not misuse it, for grace, though abundant, is not to be taken lightly.

Before we explore the potential misuse of grace, let us reflect on the magnificent ways in which grace transforms our lives. Here are seven profound aspects of what grace can do:

  1. Beyond human Capability – Grace brings things you can’t comprehend:
Grace bestows upon us what our strength cannot fix. It brings about circumstances beyond our comprehension, unfolding unexpected blessings in our lives 1 Pet. 5:10.

  2. Constant Companion for the Faithful – Grace abides always with you anywhere and anytime:
For those sincerely walking in the path of the Lord, grace becomes an ever-present companion. It bestows uniqueness and significance upon individuals, even when they may question their worthiness Luke 2:40.

  3. Effortless Assistance – Grace brings help without labour:
Grace brings help without the need for exhaustive labor. It keeps the door of assistance open. Grace brings assistance effortlessly (1 Pet. 4:10). As recipients of unanticipated aid, we are encouraged to extend the same kindness to others, being good stewards of the grace bestowed upon us.

  4. Continuous Divine Presence – Grace brings the presence of God upon one’s life:
Embracing grace invites the perpetual presence of God into our lives. Though challenges may arise, the grace-bearer remains protected and undefeated 1 Cor. 15:10. Success, therefore, is not solely the result of personal achievement but a manifestation of God’s grace.

  5. Precious Gifts – Grace gives us something precious:
Acts 20:32 reminds us that through grace, we receive the Holy Spirit and other precious gifts that could probably not initially be part of our destiny. However, we are urged to handle these gifts with care and not to misuse them.
  6. All glories are embedded in Grace:
Ultimately, Jesus is the embodiment of the grace we speak of. He is the Amen to everything we ask, and through His grace, we are truly blessed. A life with grace automatically attracts glory, fame, and wealth. The distinction between these elements is crucial. All glory finds its roots in grace Heb 2:9, Rom 5:15; 2 Cor 6:14.

Overconfidence without God’s presence will result in disgrace. Prophet Akintunde Akinniyi

As we appreciate the wonders of grace, let us reflect on cautionary tales from the scriptures about those who misused the precious gift of grace:

  1. Solomon (1 Kings 10:21-22, 11:1-3, 10):
Despite being blessed like no other, Solomon’s excesses led to his downfall. His wisdom and wealth were unparalleled, yet his misuse of grace led to his eventual destruction. Excessive behaviors can prove destructive, and it is vital to heed warnings before perishing.

  2. Samson (Judges 16:17):
Samson, a powerful man endowed with strength and a Nazirite vow symbolized by his seven dreads, akin to the lamb on the altar, succumbed to overconfidence and the allure of worldly pleasures, ultimately resulting in his destruction. Overconfidence without God’s presence will result in disgrace.

In conclusion, let us embrace grace with gratitude and humility. The grace of God is a precious gift that should guide our actions, keeping us humble and dependent on Him. The misuse of this extraordinary blessing has the potential to swallow one’s destiny.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. Amen!
