Taking away high places

Dear beloved congregation,
Today I bring you a sermon, not just a teaching, but a message that will awaken your hearts to the presence of our Lord. It is important to examine our attitudes and the way we live our lives. We must ask ourselves, is our relationship with the Lord transforming us? If your response is no, then there are high places that need to be removed so that you may experience the divine presence of God.
We can learn valuable lessons from the lives of two kings in the Bible. 2 Kings 21:1-5, Manasseh, despite being young and blessed with a unique opportunity to serve as king, failed to appreciate God’s goodness. Instead, he raised high places and engaged in activities that deeply displeased the Lord. God allowed him to go his own way but ultimately led to his destruction. Let us reflect on the importance of using the time and positions we are blessed with to please the Lord, just as Josiah did in 2 Chronicles 34:1-5. He learned from Manasseh’s mistakes and dedicated himself to honouring God. In return, Josiah was greatly blessed.
Too many people have enjoyed worldly pleasures in the past, only to end up in destruction. We must ask ourselves, what awaits us after death? Only those who have surrendered their lives to Christ and honoured Him will be with Him in eternity. The high places in our lives must be removed if we want to experience the fullness of God’s presence.
So, what are these high places that we need to remove?
The Scriptures in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 list various forms of unrighteousness. It is not for us to judge those who engage in these behaviours, for if they repent and confess their sins, God will save them. However, we, as believers, must be faithful and obedient to God’s commands. Unfaithfulness is a high place that God detests. Let our words be true and our actions align with His will. When God makes a promise, He never fails to fulfill it. We should honour our words just as He honours His.
The pursuit of worldly pleasures and gains is a never -ending race, only God can sustain us. Prophet Akintunde Akinniyi
We must remember that the pursuit of worldly pleasures and gains is a never-ending race. We can never catch up with the world, but only God can sustain us. Therefore, let us ask ourselves, what have we laid down for the next generation? Are we leaving a legacy of faithfulness and obedience to God’s will? Heaven calls upon us to remove the high places that hinder God’s work in our lives. We must not take God for granted. We must do His will to see His abundant blessings manifest in our lives.
Today, I encourage you to take away the stumbling blocks that hinder your progress. Remove the high places that prevent God from working in your life. Let us strive for righteousness and faithfulness, knowing that God’s promises are true and His blessings are abundant. May your hearts be awakened to the presence of God, and may His grace empower you to remove these high places and experience His divine encounter. Amen.
