The Altar – 12 Things that can swallow a man’s destiny

Dear beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today, as we delve into the concluding part of our discussion on the “7 Essential facts about the altar”, let us be reminded of the profound impact the altar has on our lives. We’ve journeyed through the importance of seeking the face of the Lord at the altar, understanding the significance of our vows, and the restoration that the altar brings. Now, let’s reflect on the final points that emphasize the authority and respect that the altar demands.

  1. Success Comes from the Altar:
Reflecting on 1 Samuel 7:10, we witness Samuel offering a sacrifice on the altar to seek the face of the Lord on behalf of the Israelites, and the Lord answered. It is a reminder that success is intricately tied to our connection with the altar. Let us, therefore, approach the altar with purpose and intention, ensuring that each encounter with God leaves us transformed. Every time we approach the presence of God, let us earnestly inquire about our achievements.
  2. Vow to the Altar:
In 1 Samuel 1:11, we recall Hannah’s earnest prayer and vow in her time of distress. When God fulfilled her request, she faithfully honoured her vow, and God, in turn, showered her with even more blessings. Psalm 50:14 emphasizes God’s interest in our thanks and the fulfillment of our vows. As we make promises to God on the altar, let us honour them faithfully, for in doing so, God honours us in return.
  3. What has the altar of God collected/taken from you?
Sacrifices on the altar must be sincere and lawful. In 1 Samuel 13:13 and 15:27, we learn that God is not impressed by unlawful sacrifices. Whatever has been taken or collected from you, trust that the altar will be the place of restoration, however, we must be broken and faithful to God’s commandments.
  4. There is authority on the altar
Always approach the presence of God with reverence and a clear understanding of your purpose. There is authority on the altar for those who believe in the living God. As we conclude, let us leave this place with a renewed respect for the altar and a deep awareness of the authority that governs it. We are reminded not to disrespect the altar in 1 Samuel 1:17.

In conclusion, let us internalize these profound truths about the altar. It is a place of success, a ground for sacred vows, a space for restoration, and an authority that demands our reverence. May our encounters at the altar be purposeful, and may we leave transformed, carrying the blessings of the Lord into our daily lives. Amen.
