The dangers of stealing God’s glory

Acts 12:21-23 One of the most sobering truths in Scripture is that God does not share His glory with anyone (Isaiah 42:8). His glory is unique, matchless, and far above what man can ever lay claim to. Whenever glory becomes the subject, God makes it clear that He alone is worthy of it.

There is a great danger in sharing God’s glory with Him, yet many of us, often unconsciously, take credit for the blessings, victories, and opportunities God has given us. We boast in our strength, wisdom, or connections, forgetting that every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17). But there is great danger in stealing God’s glory.

Pause for a moment and reflect:

  • How often do you sincerely give God the glory for what you have?
  • Do you remember the times you prayed earnestly for the things you now enjoy?
  • Are you mindful that what you now call “normal” is the answered prayer of yesterday?

Many are still seeking what God freely gave to you, yet the question remains:
What do you give back to God who blessed you?

The Dangers of Stealing God’s Glory

  1. Facing God’s judgement

Failure to acknowledge the goodness of God is an invitation to the punishment of God. The bible reminds us that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Anyone who takes credit for what God has done sets themselves against Him. That is a dangerous place to be.

  2. Rejection from God’s Presence

Anyone who refuses to acknowledge the word of God will be rejected from his sight. In 1 Samuel 15:23, Saul was rejected because he disobeyed and placed his will above God’s command. Stealing God’s glory is no different. It is an attempt to put ourselves in His place and receive the praise that belongs to Him. Such a person risks losing the backing of the Holy Spirit.

  3. Opening the Door to Demonic Attacks

When you take God’s glory, you expose yourself to spiritual vulnerability, giving room for afflictions and demonic attacks. “Pride always precedes destruction” (Proverbs 16:18).

  4. Shame and Sudden Destruction

The one who steals God’s glory will ultimately face shame, disgrace, and even destruction without redemption. “Pride always precedes destruction” (Proverbs 11:2).

God does not bless you to oppress others.

God does not bless you to oppress others. He blesses you to make life better for those around you and, above all, to bring glory to His name. Your wealth, talents, and opportunities are not for self-exaltation. They are gifts entrusted to you for service, impact, and gratitude. If God were to take your breath today, what would you have left? Without Him, you were nothing until He changed your story.

In conclusion, each time you wake up in the morning, you owe Him praise. Every time you overcome an obstacle, you owe Him thanks. In every season, whether in abundance or lack, God deserves your appreciation. Do not take what belongs to God. Do not attempt to share His throne. Return all glory to Him always. This is the pathway to sustained blessing, favour, and peace.
