Dear beloved congregation,
Today, we gather here to reflect upon the profound concept of rewards—divine rewards that come from answering God’s call and faithfully serving Him. It is essential to understand that rewards are not just limited to the fruits of our labour or the efforts we invest in our daily tasks. God’s rewards extend far beyond what we can comprehend, for they are a manifestation of His mercy, grace, and love for all mankind. Revelation 22:12.
God, in His infinite wisdom, has called each one of us to fulfill a unique purpose in this world. Some are called to be His mouthpiece, speaking His truth to the world. Others are called to live holy and sacred lives, dedicated to God’s service. And yet, others are called to be evangelists, spreading His message of hope and salvation. The beauty lies in the diversity of these calls, for they all contribute to the greater plan of God’s kingdom.
However, we must acknowledge that not everyone heeds the call. Those who do respond and obey are promised special rewards. The Scriptures remind us that God’s first reward to humanity is the gift of existence, and His ultimate reward is for us to be fruitful and multiply. Yet, at times, we may experience challenges or setbacks that seemingly hinder these blessings. It is during such moments that we must remember that God works in mysterious ways, and some trials may serve as opportunities for Him to manifest His power in our lives.
As Christians on this journey, have you been recognized as genuine followers of Christ? Do others see the Spirit of God working in you? It is essential to exercise your power as children of God when facing challenges from the enemy. Do not admit defeat, for God’s rewards are powerful and await those who remain faithful to His call. In Acts 16:16, we read about the lady with a familiar spirit who recognized the spirit of God in the lives of the apostles.

It is crucial to understand that walking this path will not be without its battles and trials. Yet, the called never give up, as the Lord strengthens them. People around you will admire your resilience, for the Lord Himself is your source of strength. Moreover, as you faithfully fulfill your call, God will provide you with helpers, even if you are initially unaware of them. Therefore, remain steadfast and committed to your calling, for your obedience may inspire others to heed their callings as well.
CAC hymn 394 reminds us of the imminent return of Christ, who will come to reward the called. This should prompt us to examine our hearts deeply—will we be found worthy of God’s heavenly reward? Are you worthy of receiving God’s reward attached to His call upon your life? Will He say, “Thank you” for using your talents for His glory? Let us never lose sight of the eternal reward that awaits us in heaven, even if we may face challenges from the enemy. In losing our lives for Christ’s sake, we gain eternal life through His divine reward.
In conclusion, my dear brethren, embrace your calling with humility, faithfully serving God in all that you do. Remember that the rewards attached to your call are beyond earthly comprehension, they are divinely ordained by our loving Father. Let us, therefore, be available, willing, and ready to receive God’s rewards by answering His call and living a life of obedience and faithfulness.
