A heart that seeks God

Introduction

Text: Acts 13:22 “…I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”

Our theme, “Men after God’s own heart”, is not only about David. It is about becoming the kind of man, woman, youth, leader, father, mother, worker, minister, and believer that God can trust. A man after God’s heart is not a perfect man. He is a repentant man. He is a surrendered man. He is a man who loves God deeply, obeys God sincerely, and returns to God quickly whenever he falls.

Explanation

One of the greatest tragedies in life is to know religion but not know God personally.
Many people:
Know church language
Know how to sing
Know how to preach
Know how to pray publicly
But inside their hearts, they are empty.
David was different.
David wanted God more than fame, power, or comfort.
Even when he became king, he still cried for God.
A man after God’s heart is a seeker of God.

Many people know church activities, but few know God intimately. God is not only looking for workers. He is looking for hearts. Here are some of the things we need to note:

1. David longed for God

   Psalm 63:1, “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee…”
   David was not seeking God only because of problems. He sought God because he loved Him.
   Many people only pray when they need money, they are sick, they are in danger, etc but true intimacy is loving God for who He is. God wants relationship, not only emergency prayers.
   A child who only visits his father when he needs money does not understand love deeply, but a child who sits with his father, talks with him, and enjoys his presence has true relationship. That is how God wants us to relate with Him.

2. God rewards those who seek him

   Hebrews 11:6, “He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
   When you seek God, your mind becomes peaceful. Your spiritual eyes open. Sin loses power, prayer becomes sweet, and worship becomes meaningful. The greatest reward is not money. The greatest reward is God Himself.

3. Jesus also desired fellowship with the father

   Mark 1:35, Jesus woke up early to pray.
   If the Son of God needed fellowship with the Father, how much more us?
   Power without intimacy becomes pride.
   Ministry without intimacy becomes empty religion.

Signs you are losing intimacy with God

1. Prayer becomes a burden
2. Sin no longer troubles your conscience
3. Worship feels dry
4. You love worldly things more than God
5. You can stay many days without reading Scripture

How to restore intimacy

1. Return to prayer
2. Study the Word daily
3. Worship sincerely
4. Separate from sinful habits
5. Spend quiet time with God.

Prayer

Father, restore my hunger for Your presence. Lord, remove every distraction taking my heart away from You. Give me passion for prayer and Your Word. Let my relationship with You become deeper. Holy Spirit, revive my spiritual life again.

May the Lord listen and grant our requests in Jesus name!
